well it's ALL about cooking it right, if it's not done right it SUCKS and is the gross'st thing you'll ever eat.

Here is the secret.

Bring a small pot of water to boil.

Put the spinach in, just shove it all in there so it's under the water.

The secret is to only cook it for 1min. EXACTLY 60 seconds. Any more and it's GROSS.

Strain it well, and then sprinkle some shredded cheese on top.

It's lovely!

oh almost forgot, only 9 calories per cup!

Compare that to potato chips that are 10 cals PER chip, and let your eyes pop out of your head. lol

my mom ALWAYS over cooked veggies. My dad too.

One time i bought asperigus and i was going to cook it the next day, he ended up cooking it for dinner. Think long stringy swampy pale colored mush sticks. EWW

I even told him he over cooked them, he said "nonsense you can't over cook vegetables by boiling them." Shocked

gross....

You can always tell if you over cooked if the water starts to change color. If you drain out most of the 'green' in your greens then you over cooked and they aren't good any more.

So yeah try the spinach trick, 1min makes perfect spinach every time.

yeah my dad did that to my lovely asparagus too Sad

Best thing you can do is cook more, if your parents will let you.

Sorry no eggplant recipes, my BF can't stand that stuff so we don't buy it.

But if you have a blender and are craving a shake, don't buy that expensive crap that comes in pouches.

All you need is:

Half a Banana
3-5 strawberries
splash of milk
(some times i also add fresh juice if there is any in the fridge)

And tada! Low calorie healthy shake made from fresh stuff. that formula should give you two mug fulls. ^.^

It's one of my favorite tasty treats, and it's really cheep to make!

oh this is easy clean up, the trick is the not let the blender cup get all hard and crusted. So after you pour out the drinks, give it a quick rinse, it comes off quick and easy, and then it can be easily cleaned. Just don't let it sit, and there is not mess. Razz

perfect yummy way to get more fruits too.

As of late, my fav low cal snack is baby carrots and hummus. I have 1/2 a cup of carrots and a tablespoon of hummus for under 100 calories. I have it every afternoon.

I love, love, love anything that says 100 calories on it! The Special K poptart type thingys are my absolute favorite, but I can't buy them... If I do, I eat the whole box. I'm pretty sure I could live my whole life on 100 calorie snacks! It's just not healthy darn it! Neutral If they could put real fruits and veggies in those suckers, I'd be good to go!

Ohh 100 calories chocolate bars too. Yup can't buy them either. I eat one and keep on going...

I may have an issue with self-control Embarassed

I love cucumbers and onions.

Basically it is 1/2 part of white vinegar and 1 part water. (So for example 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water.) Warm it on the stove or in the microwave. Add sugar to taste. I usually only add about a couple of tablespoons.)

Slice cucumbers and onions then poor this mixture over them. Let them soak overnight in the refrigerator. Yummy! And very low cal - especially if you use Splenda instead of sugar.

Also, buy a package of red grapes. Rinse them and put in large freezer zip lock baggie. Poor in a box of low cal Raspberry Jello and shake well. Place in the freezer overnight. The jello will harden and create a candy-like shell around the grapes.
